- Description: Ask customers to show how they use your product. Use these prompts and a simple feedback form to learn what works, what they adapt and what to improve.

A customer tells you, “We used to chase approvals in three different places. Now everyone knows where to look.”

That’s the beginning of a video testimonial. It gives a prospective buyer a situation they can recognise and a reason to keep watching. The next step is giving the customer an easy way to tell that story on camera.

**To collect video testimonials on your website, create a page with a recording form, invite customers who have a specific experience to share, and give them two or three prompts.** Customers can record in their browser when it suits them. Your team reviews each submission and confirms how it can be used before publishing.

## Who should you ask for a video testimonial?

Ask customers who can describe **a change they’ve experienced firsthand**. Good moments include finishing a project, reaching a milestone or hearing a customer explain why they renewed.

Use their own words to make the invitation specific. In the approvals example, you might write:

> **Subject:** Would you share how your team handles approvals now?
>
> Hi Maya, you mentioned that your team used to chase approvals across email and chat. Would you be open to recording a short video about what changed?
>
> Here’s the link: \[your testimonial form\]. About a minute is plenty. We’d love to hear what approvals looked like before and what’s different for your team now. We’ll check with you before sharing the clip publicly.

The customer can read the question, open the link and record when they have a quiet moment. There’s no interview to schedule.

## What questions make a useful video testimonial?

Give customers a simple sequence they can answer in their own words. For a software customer, **the old workflow, the reason they switched and what changed** are enough to tell a complete story.

__Three questions for a customer video testimonial.__
| Part of the story | Question to ask |
| ----------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Before | How did your team handle this before? |
| The decision | What made you look for a different way to do it? |
| After | What’s different now? Can you give one example from your team’s day? |

The last question is where you get the detail a buyer can use. “Approvals are easier” becomes “Our designer can see which version is approved before sending it to the client.” The customer gets to tell the story without having to write a script.

## How do you build a video testimonial submission form?

Put the prompt above the recorder so customers can read it before they start. Ask for the name, company and contact details you’ll need to review and follow up on the submission. Explain what you’ll do with the recording and how you’ll confirm permission to publish it.

Use this copy above the recorder:

**Tell us what changed for your team.**

What were you doing before? Why did you switch? What’s different now?

Aim for about a minute. One example from your day is plenty.

Our marketing team will review your recording and contact you before publishing it.

If you already use WordPress, follow the recording-field setup for [WPForms](https://blog.addpipe.com/video-messages-wpforms/) or [Contact Form 7](https://blog.addpipe.com/video-messages-contact-form-7/). For a custom page, try the [example form with a video recorder](https://addpipe.com/embed-code-v2-demos/custom-form/).

Test the form on a phone and a laptop before sending the invitation. Submit a recording, then check that your reviewer can open it alongside the correct customer details.

## Where should you publish the finished testimonial?

Place it where that specific story answers a buyer’s question. A clip about simplifying approvals belongs on an approvals feature page or in a customer story about that workflow. A clip about switching from spreadsheets might be more useful on a page for teams comparing ways to manage approvals.

Confirm the customer’s name, role and company, and agree on where the clip will appear. If you edit it, preserve the context around what they said. Add captions so visitors can follow the story with the sound off.

Start with **one customer, one story and one place you’d use the clip**. If you already have the page or form, [AddPipe lets you add the recorder to it](https://addpipe.com/use-cases/ugc/).
