Announcing the New EU Region (EU3)
We've just launched a new recording, processing & storage region in Europe, the EU3 region, expanding Pipe's European infrastructure to deliver better performance and increased reliability for your recording needs.
What's New?
The new EU3 region joins the already existing regions and is composed of:
- An ingestion server handling streamed and uploaded recordings.
- A processing server that handles the transcoding, the push to storage, webhooks, etc.
- A new storage bucket, dedicated to recordings made by EU3
These bring significant infrastructure improvements that translate to real benefits:
- Increased processing capacity to handle peak loads more efficiently.
- Improved uptime through redundancy, especially when using the
Random EUenvironment region option. - Easier maintenance and updates on our end, which translates to fewer disruptions to your service.
New Region Options
You have two ways to leverage the new EU3 infrastructure:
- Directly select the
EU3region option. - Selecting the
Random EUregion option, which will tell Pipe to randomly assign one of the two EU regions (EU2 or EU3). Distribution occurs when the recorder is loaded on the page.
Both options listed above are available when creating a new environment or editing an existing one from your account dashboard.
Plan Availability
The new EU3 region options are available only for Creator and PRO plans.
Technical Details
Server IP Address
If you are whitelisting IPs for webhooks or storage pushes to your own (S)FTP, make sure to add the following address to the whitelist: 168.119.177.143.
Storage Location Value
When using the onSaveOk callback or equivalent JavaScript API functions, recordings that are processed by the new EU3 region will have the following location value: eu3-addpipe.s3.nl-ams.scw.cloud.
Fallback Mechanism
Current status: The fallback mechanism for the EU regions (EU2 and EU3) is only operational when selecting the Random EU region option from the environment options. More details are available in the documentation.
This is by design to avoid confusion for clients using the EU2 region, who can suddenly find their recordings are routed to the new EU3 region if the EU2 region fails for any reason.
The fallback mechanism will be updated in the future to function when selecting individual EU2 or EU3 regions, as our users become more aware of EU3.
Infrastructure Providers
Staying consistent with our EU2 region, the EU3 region infrastructure is hosted with the same two trusted European providers:
- Hetzner for compute, servers located in Falkenstein.
- Scaleway for storage, located in Amsterdam.
Important Note: Auto-detect Region Option
The EU3 region is not yet included in the Auto-detect environment region option. This decision follows the same reasoning as explained earlier for the fallback mechanism. If you are using Auto-detect, your recordings will continue to be routed to the already existing regions.
Similarly, the integration of EU3 in Auto-detect will be implemented in the future.
